Pay My Property Taxes

Learn how to pay your property taxes and set up a pre-authorized payment plan.

Pre-Authorized Payment Plans

The City offers two pre-authorized payment plans.

To enroll, complete the appropriate pre-authorized payment form and return it to the Treasury Department.

Forms can be returned by email to propertytax@stthomas.ca or to the Treasury Department at City Hall.

Monthly payment plan

Payments are withdrawn from your bank account on the last business day of each month.

You can join the monthly plan at any time if your tax account has no outstanding balance.

Installment payment plan

Payments are withdrawn from your bank account on the regular property tax due dates:

  • February
  • April
  • July
  • October

Payments are withdrawn on the last business day of the month.

Before you join a payment plan

Your property tax account must be paid in full before you can join a pre-authorized payment plan.

Supplementary tax bills are not included in the pre-authorized payment plans. You must pay supplementary bills separately.

In person at City Hall

You can pay at City Hall during regular business hours.

Accepted payment methods are:

  • debit
  • cash
  • cheque

The City does not currently accept credit cards for property tax payments.

Mail a cheque

Make cheques payable to the City of St. Thomas.

Mail your cheque to:

You can post-date a cheque to a future tax due date.

Your payment must be postmarked on or before the due date to avoid late payment charges.

A $40 fee applies to payments returned because of non-sufficient funds.

Night depository

You can place a cheque in the City's night depository.

The night depository is located at the rear entrance on the east side of City Hall, off the parking lot.

Online or telephone banking

You can pay your property taxes through your financial institution's online or telephone banking service.

Add the City of St. Thomas as a payee and use the complete 15-digit roll number shown on your tax bill as the account number.

Allow enough time for your payment to reach the City before the due date.

At a financial institution

You can pay your property taxes at most financial institutions.

Financial institutions may charge a service fee.

If you pay in person, ask the teller to date stamp your payment on or before the due date.
