The people of St. Thomas are at the heart of our community. The City of St. Thomas Civic Awards Program recognizes and celebrates individuals, teams and organizations whose achievements, service and contributions bring pride and distinction to our city.
Whether through volunteerism, sport, culture, community leadership, youth achievement or an extraordinary act of courage, Civic Awards provide an opportunity to recognize the people who help make St. Thomas a great place to call home!
Nomination Form Civic Awards are accepted year-round, with awards presentations at City Council meetings as required.
Recognizing individuals and teams that have achieved success in a recognized open competition at the Provincial, National or International/World level.
Awards may recognize individual athletes or teams at each of these levels.
Recognizing an individual or organization that has continuously volunteered their time and/or talents and made an outstanding contribution to the citizens of St. Thomas for a minimum of three years.
Recognizing an individual or organization that, through volunteerism, has performed an outstanding one-time deed for the betterment of the citizens of St. Thomas.
Recognizing an individual or organization that has contributed to the cultural character of St. Thomas through extended accomplishments or by representing the community.
Achievements may include theatre, art, music, literature or serving as a cultural ambassador at the Provincial, National or International level.
Recognizing an individual who has performed a selfless act to save or protect others.
The award may recognize a St. Thomas resident or a non-resident who performed an act of bravery in St. Thomas, or whose actions outside the city were in the interest of St. Thomas.
The Heroism Award may also be presented posthumously.
Recognizing an individual or organization that has made a significant contribution to the citizens of St. Thomas through work or accomplishments that do not fall within another Civic Award category.
Recognizing outstanding efforts and achievements by youth in supporting and promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
This may include innovative projects, programs or achievements addressing issues at the local, national or global level.
Recognizing young people 18 years of age and younger who are making a positive difference in their community.
This could include creating programs for other youth, volunteering, mentoring, running an after-school club or helping other young people build motivation, confidence and self-esteem.
Recognizing an individual or organization that has made an impact on the City of St. Thomas and surrounding community through their accomplishments.
The recipient of the Mayor's Award is selected by the Mayor.
Civic Award recipients must generally be a citizen of the City of St. Thomas and/or involved in a St. Thomas-based group.
Specific eligibility requirements may vary depending on the award category.
An individual may receive an award only once in their lifetime in each category. Organizations and teams may be eligible for subsequent recognition when the circumstances or achievement are substantially different from a previous award.
Know someone who deserves to be recognized?
Residents, organizations and community groups are encouraged to nominate deserving individuals, teams or organizations throughout the year.
A nomination should provide enough information to clearly demonstrate the nominee's achievement or contribution and how they meet the criteria for the selected award.

Providing detailed information helps the City properly consider the nomination and recognize the nominee's accomplishments.
Nominations are accepted throughout the year and reviewed to determine whether they meet the Civic Awards criteria.
Qualified nominations are brought forward for consideration, and Civic Awards may be presented at a meeting of St. Thomas City Council.
Not every award category is required to be presented each year. Awards are based on qualifying nominations received.
All nominations are acknowledged in writing.
Civic Award recipients are formally recognized by the City of St. Thomas.
Individual recipients receive a City of St. Thomas certificate and Civic Award pin.
Teams and organizations receive a City certificate recognizing the group and its accomplishment, with Civic Award pins presented to eligible members.
Recognition may take place during a meeting of St. Thomas City Council.
