Demolition Permit

A Demolition Permit is required before demolishing all or part of a building. The permit process helps ensure that demolition is carried out safely and that all applicable requirements are met, including the proper disconnection of utility services.

It is the responsibility of the property owner (or their authorized agent) to obtain a demolition permit before any demolition work begins.

When is a Demolition Permit Required?

A demolition permit is generally required to demolish:

  • An entire building, or
  • A portion of a building greater than 10 square metres (108 sq. ft.)

If you are unsure whether your project requires a demolition permit, please contact Planning & Building Services before starting work.

Before a Permit Can Be Issued

Prior to issuing a demolition permit, the City may require confirmation that utility services have been safely disconnected in accordance with the requirements of the applicable utility providers.

Permit Fees

Demolition permit fees are based on the size (area) of the building being demolished. Please refer to the City's current Building Permit Fee Schedule for applicable rates.
