Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What are your resident rates? Are they different from other long-term care homes?
Is there 24-hour medical coverage?
Yes. A Registered Nurse, a Registered Practical Nurse and nursing attendants are on duty at all times. Registered staff administer all medications to residents.
Does Valleyview Home provide physical aids, such as wheelchairs, walkers and canes?
We have physical aids available for general use. For continued personal use, we recommend an aid fitted specifically to your needs. Our Therapy Department can help with this process.
What activities and social programs do you offer?
Our activation staff provide a variety of programs suited to residents' abilities and interests, including celebrations for special occasions and seasons.
This depends on how much room is available. We encourage residents to personalize their rooms with pictures and personal items.
Pets can visit if they are friendly, compatible, immunized and kept on a leash by their owner at all times.
Can my parents live in the same room?
We place couples together at their request, often in a semi-private or basic room.
What type of clothing should we bring?
Bring clothing that is comfortable, machine washable and easy to put on and take off.
Are meals prepared and cooked on site?
Yes. We prepare meals on site and serve them in dining rooms in each resident home area.
Every meal includes a main menu option and an alternate. We develop our menus with input from residents through Resident Council and Food Committee.
Yes. Our dietitian assesses and monitors residents' diets daily to meet their nutritional needs.
Can family bring in food as a gift?
Yes, we accept food gifts, but we cannot store perishable items.
Can family have meals with a resident?
Yes. Family and friends are welcome to share a meal with a resident for a small fee. Give the kitchen notice by 10:30 a.m. for lunch or 3:30 p.m. for supper.
No. This is our residents' home, and you are welcome any time. Please check in with the Registered Nurse Supervisor before your visit.
Do you provide religious services?
Yes. Our Recreation Department coordinates pastoral care, and we host religious services from various denominations throughout the month.
Can residents go home with family for overnight visits?
Yes. Under Ministry standards, residents can take 2 overnight casual days away each week. For safety, please sign a resident out at the nursing station if you are taking them out, even for a short trip like coffee or shopping.
Who do I contact with a question or concern?
Speak with the Registered Nurse Supervisor, who will address your concern or direct you to the right department.
