Permit Process
After you submit your application, we'll complete a plans examination to make sure everything meets the Ontario Building Code, the Building By-Law and any other necessary regulations.
Review will occur within 10, 15, 20 or 30 business days (depending on the size of the project). If any deficiencies are found during plan review, a list will be provided to you and then you will need to provide revisions or additional information to address those items.
Keep in mind that this process may take some time, so it's important to plan ahead.
Other Approvals that may be needed for a permit to be issued:
- City of St Thomas Planning Department
- Environmental Services Department
- Heritage Approval
- Conservation Authority Approval
- MTO Controlled areas : Highway Corridor Management System
During the Plan Review, the permit fee and any applicable Development Charges will be determined. Building Permit fees are listed in the Building By-law.
You will need to pay all applicable fees before a permit will be issued.
Construction may only begin once a building permit has been issued.
