UPDATE: Railway City Transit Back in Service
Posted on 07/06/2025
UPDATE (Wednesday, July 9, 9:00AM):

The Railway City Transit Service building at 612 Talbot Street has fully reopened.

UPDATE (Monday, July 7, 9:00AM):

Railway City Transit is operating as scheduled today.

However, there is currently no public access to the RCT Transit Service building at 612 Talbot Street due to recent fire impacts. As a result, transit tickets are not available for purchase at this location at this time.

Tickets can still be purchased at various authorized resellers listed on the City website. Find them here.

We appreciate your understanding as we work to restore full access. Thank you for your continued patience.

UPDATE (Sunday, July 6 at 12:20PM):

Conventional Fixed Route transit service has resumed.

Parallel and DRT (Demand-Responsive Transit) services remain suspended as staff do not have full access to the transit office, including phone and internet systems required for bookings.

We expect to resume full service tomorrow as scheduled.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

ORIGINAL (Sunday, July 6 at 10:00AM):

As of Sunday, July 6, 2025, all Railway City Transit services are temporarily out of service following a fire in the downtown core on Talbot Street.

Vehicles are currently undergoing thorough safety and quality control checks. This measure is being taken to ensure that all transit equipment is safe to operate before service resumes.

City staff are working closely with emergency crews and transit operations to restore service as soon as possible. The safety of our passengers and operators remains the top priority.

We understand the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the public’s patience during this time. Updates will continue to be shared through the City’s official social media channels and on this page as they become available.

In the meantime, residents are asked to avoid the 600-block of Talbot Street and surrounding area as emergency crews remain on scene.

The City of St. Thomas would like to thank the St. Thomas Fire Department and St. Thomas Police Service for their swift action and continued efforts in keeping the community safe.

Please stay tuned for updates regarding transit service restoration.
