Helping Residents Restore Lawns After Winter
Posted on 04/27/2026
The City of St. Thomas is pleased to invite residents to a special community event designed to support property owners in repairing lawn damage caused by winter snowplow operations. Seasonal maintenance can sometimes result in turf disruption along boulevards and front lawns, and this initiative aims to help residents restore these areas as we move into the spring season.

Event Date: Saturday, May 9, 2026
Time: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Location: City Works Yard, 100 Burwell Road, St. Thomas

Event Details:
Residents are welcome to attend during the scheduled hours to pick up complimentary topsoil and grass seed. These materials are being provided free of charge to assist with lawn restoration efforts throughout the community. City staff will be present on-site to help guide traffic flow, provide direction, and assist with any questions regarding the materials or their use.

This trial program is intended to support property owners who wish to complete minor lawn repairs caused by winter maintenance activities on their own timeline. The city will be working through the damages that have already been reported. In the meantime, residents are invited to access free repair materials through this program and complete the work themselves at a time that is convenient for them.

NOTE:
*This is for small manageable lawn repairs and not for large personal home or property improvements.  Quantities will be managed by staff to allow for fair and equitable distribution.  Containers will NOT be provided and NO foul language, disruptive or disrespectful behaviours will, be tolerated.  Any unacceptable situations will cease the program, and all people will be asked to leave the property.

*Please DO NOT bring any sod or compost, or other organics to dispose or dump at the yard.  We will not accept any materials, and you will be instructed to take them back with you.

If this trial program proves effective, more dates may be come available.  Please watch the website for more updates.
