New Wall Installed for Emerging Artists in St. Thomas

A new creative outlet for emerging artists has arrived in St. Thomas.

In collaboration with Andrew Gunn Consulting and young & free press, the City of St. Thomas has installed a new 8-foot tall, 20-foot long concrete wall at the Railway City Skate Park. The wall has been intentionally designed as a space where artists can practice mural and graffiti-style artwork.

The initiative builds on the growing interest in mural art across the city and responds directly to feedback from local students. Through engagement conducted as part of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan, youth expressed interest in opportunities to learn and practice mural and graffiti art — inspiring the creation of this dedicated space.

The new wall is one of several planned enhancements aimed at creating a more active and welcoming environment for youth and community members downtown.

Andrew Gunn Consulting has previously worked with the City and partners to introduce outdoor artwork throughout St. Thomas. Similar open-wall concepts have been successfully implemented in cities around the world, including London, UK and Ghent, Belgium.

The official opening of the wall is scheduled for May 13, 2026, when art students from Parkside Collegiate Institute will participate in a hands-on learning session.

Additional initiatives aimed at supporting arts and culture in St. Thomas will be announced throughout the year.
