2026 Municipal Election: Nomination Period Closes, Candidates Certified

The nomination period for the 2026 Municipal Election has officially closed, marking the next stage in the City of St. Thomas’ election process.

The following candidates have been certified by the City Clerk for positions on St. Thomas City Council and the English-language school boards:

English Public School Board Trustee

Two candidates were nominated for the two available English Public School Board Trustee positions representing Elgin County. As the number of certified candidates does not exceed the number of positions to be elected, both candidates have been acclaimed and will not appear on the ballot.

Candidates for the French Public School Board and French Separate School Board are certified by the City of Sarnia and the City of Woodstock, respectively. Information about candidates for these positions will be available through the applicable municipal election authorities.

Voters in St. Thomas may be eligible to vote for candidates for the French Public and/or French Separate School Boards, depending on their eligibility and school support status.

Voting Made Convenient

The 2026 Municipal Election will use internet and telephone voting, giving eligible electors the flexibility to cast their ballot from wherever they are during the voting period.

Voting will be open from Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at 10 a.m. until Monday, October 26, 2026 at 8 p.m.

Electors will be able to vote online or by telephone at a time that is convenient for them throughout the voting period. The City will also provide tablet kiosks at limited times and locations for electors who do not have access to a telephone, computer or tablet, or who require assistance.

Make Sure You’re on the Voters’ List

Starting September 1, 2026, additions and amendments can be made to the Voters’ List. Electors can update their information between September 1 and 8 p.m. on October 26, 2026.

Eligible electors must be at least 18 years old on Voting Day, be a Canadian citizen, and meet the residency or property ownership requirements outlined under the Municipal Elections Act.
