Southwestern Public Health has extended the Cold Weather Alert due to extreme cold forecasted across the region. Environment Canada is predicting temperatures as low as -20°C, with wind chills reaching -27°C continuing through Monday, February 2, 2026.
Residents are encouraged to take precautions to reduce the risk of frostbite and hypothermia, particularly those most vulnerable to cold weather, including older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and individuals without adequate shelter. Stay indoors when possible, dress in warm layers, cover exposed skin, and check on vulnerable individuals.
