How the City of St. Thomas is Responding to the Current Heatwave

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued the first heat event of the summer from Saturday, June 21 to Wednesday, June 25. The most intense heat is expected Monday, June 23, with high humidex values and very warm overnight temperatures.
The City of St. Thomas has taken several measures in response to this weather:
Community Cooling Location
To help our community stay safe and cool, the Joe Thornton Community Centre (75 Caso Crossing) will be open as a cooling location from June 21–25, daily from 8 AM to 10 PM.
Extended Hours at City Splash Pads
To help beat the heat, the hours at local splash pads have been temporarily extended from 10 AM - 8 PM to 9 AM - 9 PM.
City Sports Fields - CLOSED
Please be advised that, due to the extreme heat, all sports fields will be shut down until the weather advisory is lifted.
As of now, the heat warning is scheduled to end on Tuesday, so fields are expected to reopen on Wednesday, weather permitting.
