Extreme Heat Warning Issued for St. Thomas
Posted on 06/30/2026

Southwestern Public Health has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for the region. Residents are encouraged to take precautions to stay safe during periods of high temperatures and humidity.

If you need a place to cool down, the Joe Thornton Community Centre is open to the public daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and offers a comfortable, air-conditioned space to escape the heat.

There are also several outdoor options available throughout the city to help residents stay cool:

  • Splash pads at Pinafore Park, Waterworks Park, and 1Password Park are open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

  • The misting station at Shaw Valley Park is available daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

  • Jaycee's Pool is open for the season and offers daily public swims.

Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of water, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during the hottest parts of the day, wear lightweight clothing, and check in on family members, neighbours, and others who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.

For information on pool schedules, splash pads, and other aquatic amenities, visit our Aquatics webpage.

The City of St. Thomas encourages everyone to take the necessary precautions to stay safe during this period of extreme heat.
