Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the difference between the beginner and tyke league? The beginner division is for ages 4-7 whereas the tyke division is for ages 6-8. The beginner division is meant for children who have minimal hockey experience but can skate on their own. If your child is highly skilled for their age, we suggest enrolling them in the division above.

What is the schedule/when can I expect my child to play? We will send the schedule 2-3 weeks prior to the start date. However, we start with the beginner division and then go in order with the age groups. Therefore, you can expect that the beginner division would have games at 8am/9am and the oldest division would have games at 4pm/5pm.

*Note there is one evening where atom, peewee/bantam will play their game on a Friday evening at memorial due to a scheduling conflict and beginner to novice will play their games from 12-6 at memorial on a Saturday.

Are all games played at the Joe Thornton Community Centre? Are all games on Saturday? Most games are at the Joe and on Saturday.

When do I get my jersey? Do I get to keep my jersey? Jersey’s will be given to coaches/assistant coaches on the first day of spring hockey and distributed before the first game. Unfortunately, due to the jersey’s being logoed once you get your ordered jersey we cannot switch for a different size, etc. Yes, jerseys are included in the registration fee, and you can keep your jersey at the end of the season.

Can I pick my jersey number? Jerseys are ordered with numbers 0-10 for each team. We do not take number requests.

My child has a friend, and they want to be on the same team. Is that possible? We will try our best to put you with the person you have requested. Please put your request in the notes when you register. Please do not email asking if multiple people or a group of people can be on the same team. We try to make teams with a varied skill level the best we can.

What do I need if I want to be a coach or assistant coach? You will need a valid police check within the past 2 years. If yours is older then this, the City of St Thomas will reimburse you for the cost of the police check. We appreciate our volunteers as this league wouldn’t be possible without parent/guardians coaching!
