Community Recycling Centre

The Community Recycling Centre now open to residents of the Township of Southwold, the Municipality of Central Elgin, Town of Aylmer and Malahide Township!

Effective June 9, 2021, household hazardous waste will be accepted on Wednesday from 10 am - 2 pm and on Saturdays from 8 am to 3 pm

CURRENT OPERATING HOURS:

Effective March 12, 2024 - November 17, 2024

  • Tuesdays to Friday: 10 am to 5 pm
  • Saturday:  8 am to 3 pm
  • Sundays:  10am to 3 pm 

Closed on all Statutory holidays.

Hazardous Waste accepted on Wednesdays from 10 am - 2 pm and on Saturdays from 8 am to 3 pm

Rate Structure/Accepted Items

Minimum charge of $25 applies to all loads with chargeable material.
* Proof of residency in participating municipalities is required. (Driver's license, work order for property where waste is generated.)
Visa, Mastercard, and Debit are accepted. No Cash.

Clean Wood $95/tonne


Site Rules

Site attendants reserve the rights to reject any load or object that appears to be a hazard to the safety of its employees. To help ensure the safe and efficient operation of the site, clients are asked to follow the rules.

  • All vehicles must report to the scale attendant
  • All children under the age of 12 must remain in the vehicle
  • All pets must remain in the vehicle
  • No smoking on site
  • Properly secure your loads
  • Obey traffic signs
  • Don't scavenge

Household Hazardous Waste

Open Wednesdays 10 am - 2 pm  & Saturdays  8 am - 3 pm

Accepted Items:

  • Aerosol containers
  • Propane cylinders
  • Fluorescent bulbs/tubes
  • Fire extinguishers and smoke detectors
  • Fertilizers and pesticides
  • Paints and coatings
  • Oven and window cleaners
  • Batteries household and automotive
  • Motor oil
  • Disinfectants
  • Mercury switches and thermometers
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Needles and syringes (in a puncture proof container)

When dropping off hazardous waste please ensure:

  • All materials should be in the original or well marked container to indicate the contents
  • All containers are securely capped and sealed
  • Liquid wastes must be no larger than 20L each. Barrels or drums of waste will not be accepted
  • Material will not be decanted, the container and its contents must be left at the depot

City of St. Thomas Community Recycling Centre Wins AMO Gas Tax Award
Ottawa, Ontario, August 16, 2017

The City of St. Thomas has been recognized by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) for investing the federal Gas Tax Fund in its community recycling centre. The Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, along with Lynn Dollin, AMO President, presented the award today to St. Thomas Mayor Heather Jackson.
