William Street and St. Anne's Place Construction

The City plans to reconstruction William Street and St. Anne's Place, from Stanley Street to Centre Street to Queen Street.  This work is being undertaken and part of the continuing effort to renew aging infrastructure, using the Complete Streets approach.

The new streetscape will feature standard line widths, grass boulevards, and improved accessibility through wider sidewalks and ramps.
During construction the road will be closed to through traffic but will remain open to local traffic.

Project Overview

Work Involved

  • Remove existing asphalt and concrete within the City right-of-way
  • Remove and replace existing sewers and watermain
  • Install new asphalt road surface, curbs and gutters, sidewalks and sidewalk ramps
  • Restore with topsoil and sod in disturbed lawn areas

  • The project has been split into two phases.  Phasing is utilized to shorten the duration of construction impacts felt by residents of the street.  The two phases for the William Street and St. Anne's Place project are:
    • Phase 1 - William Street - Stanley Street to Centre Street
      • Phase 1 work is anticipated to start, pending tender award, in mid to late march.
    • Phase 2 - St. Anne's Place - Stanley Street to Queen Street
      • Work within phase 2 will not start until phase 1 has been completed up to base asphalt.  Completion of this project is set for August 2022.
