The City of St. Thomas is undertaking an Employment Lands Comprehensive Review to review the employment land supply and demand. This review will recommend changes to the existing employment land designations and policies to meet the City's long term need. It is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2017, followed by official plan and zoning by-law amendments to implement the recommendations.

Previous Public Open House Invitation

All properties that are designated an employment land use designation (Industrial) in the St. Thomas Official Plan are affected by the ongoing Employment Land Comprehensive Review. The extent to which your property will be affected will depend on factors such as its location, size, existing land use designation as well as the current land uses in operation.

Employment Land Conversion Requests

For lands within the employment land designation, conversion to a non-employment land designation (e.g., commercial) can only be considered through a comprehensive review such as the St. Thomas Employment Lands Comprehensive Review. Conversion requests must be submitted by July 13, 2017 to be considered in the ongoing St. Thomas Employment Lands Comprehensive Review. Conversion requests will be considered based on the policy framework outlined in the 2014 Provincial Policy Statement: Planning authorities may permit conversion of lands within employment areas to non-employment uses through a comprehensive review, only where it has been demonstrated that the land is not required for employment purposes over the long term and that there is a need for the conversion.

To submit your property to be considered for an employment land conversion, please complete and submit the Employment Conversion Information Form by July 13, 2017.
