The project is ahead of schedule and will be completed mid May. The contractor is installing the curb and will be starting to pave next week. On Monday, May 1st (weather dependent), lane restrictions at the intersection of Talbot Street and First Avenue will be in place from 9pm until 7:30am the next morning to complete the paving of the intersection. Westbound traffic on Talbot will be able to turn northbound onto First Avenue, Eastbound traffic on Talbot will be able to turn northbound onto First Avenue, and Southbound traffic on First Avenue will be able to turn westbound onto Talbot Street, all other movements will be restricted.
Parking - Overnight Parking
Overnight parking on City Streets is prohibited during the winter months, from November 15th, to March 15th, between the hours of 3:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.
The City of St. Thomas has available Overnight Parking Permits. The permit is available to residents whose property meets the eligibility criteria as set out in the Traffic and Parking By-Law 45-89. The cost of the permit is $56.50 for the season.
In summary the By-Law states:
If the property has two or more parking spaces (including garage(s)), a permit will not be issued, and, If the property has the potential for two parking spaces, a permit may be issued for one year only on the condition that the property owner will develop the second parking space while also complying with the City Zoning By-law and Policies.
In addition to the seasonal overnight parking permits, guest parking passes are available at a cost of $2 per night during the period of November 15 - March 15.
Requests for Overnight Parking Permits should be directed to the Environmental Services Department. We are available Monday to Friday, from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. at 519-631-1680 ext 4161.
Please be advised that construction will start on Elm Street from Centennial Avenue to east of Tyke Road for underground storm sewer installation. The construction will start on Monday, May 1, 2017 with traffic control and lane restriction in place until the end of May 2017. Please follow traffic control signs and personnel on site in order to navigate through the construction zone safely.
The City is excited to announce the Edward Street Road Rehabilitation Project will start in April. The Burwell Road Rehabilitation project will begin after Edward Street has been completed.
